Fly Sax, Fly 540’s sister company, has started a daily flight from Nairobi to Lodwar. The low-cost airline will operate a 37-seater aircraft from Nairobi to Eldoret, and then on to Kitale before connecting to Lodwar. Passengers flying from Lodwar to Nairobi will pay Sh8,000.
The airline’s inaugural flight was flagged off by Nominated Senator Zipporah Kittony, who said it would open up market opportunities in the Northern region.
Mrs Kittony said the region has a lot of potential for agriculture and tourism, and asked the Kenya Airports Authority to improve and expand the Lodwar airstrip to encourage other airlines to serve the area. Fly 540 Regional Manager Stella Kapsoot said the Fly Sax flight would enable residents of Turkana County to travel with ease.
“We have taken just 50 minutes to get to Kitale, a great improvement from the 12 hours it takes using a vehicle,” said Benson Lokwang, a resident of Turkana.
