Firm launches new automated fuel card

By Philip Mwakio

Regional oil marketer, Petro Oil Kenya Limited, has launched an automated fuel card for its clients.

In a launch ceremony conducted at the Mombasa Sport Club, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, Ben Kingori said that as part of the firm’s rebranding they have introduced Petro Gold card for its clients.

‘‘Though we have our presence all over the country, we have decided to start with Mombasa which also serves as our headquarters before we roll out to the rest of the country and the East African region in which we have our presence,’’ the CEO said. ‘‘The difference between Petro cards and the other fuel cards is that ours are automated. The cards are used at the pump to activate a sell and data is relayed to the card centre without human interface,’’ the CEO who was accompanied by Retail manager, Irene Muchemi said.

Mucheni said the new minimises fraud and helps in effective fleet fuel management.

‘‘Our clients should also not worry anymore about lost documentation when refueling as we maintain electronic records which we give on request,’’ Mucheni said

The firm, which has operations in Zanzibar, Tanzania and Uganda, plans to expand to other East African Community member states. Mucheni says the firm will diversify into other value addition services such as restaurants and quick sale shops at its fuel outlets.
