Eldoret North MP William Ruto has expressed optimism that the truth shall prevail in the case facing him and five others at the International Criminal Court.

He said that those who peddled lies about his alleged role, and that of five others, did so because of monetary gains.

"We are victims of fabrication and falsehood by people who peddled lies so that they could be paid to feed their families, pay fees for their children and clothe their wives," Ruto claimed

The Eldoret North MP William Ruto was speaking during a press conference at Ole Sereni hotel along Mombasa road on Sunday night shortly after he arrived from The Hague.

"I am persuaded beyond doubt that the truth cannot stand with lies regardless of who has weaved them,"

Ruto added: "We must do whatever it takes as a people and leaders to alleviate poverty and unemployment in the society,"

He said Kenyans need dignity and a good environment to work and feed their families so that they are not crafted into schemes of peddling falsehood for commercial gain.

"I am amazed by the power of the truth that comes out of fervent prayers by a God fearing people," Ruto said.

"I wish to thank Kenyans of all faiths who prayed for us as they followed the proceedings at the ICC through their TVs and the defence team for a job well done at The Hague. We now know the truth," Ruto said.

Ruto missed his graduation ceremony at University of Nairobi last Friday after being barred from traveling back to the country by Judges at ICC until the court sessions were concluded.

Ruto was scheduled to graduate with a Masters of Science degree in plant ecology in a ceremony presided over by his successor at the Higher Education Ministry Prof Margaret Kamar.
