A 66-year-old man was on Monday killed by his wife and son after they differed over land ownership in Ugunja, Siaya County.

The police were seeking the 30-year-old son and his 60-year-old mother after killing the elderly man and placing the body on his bed before they escaped at Rang’ala village in South Ugenya.

The suspects were said to have engaged the deceased, Gonzage Ochieng, in a heated argument over the landownership before it turned into a physical war. His body was later dragged into his house and laid on the bed.

Vincent Oduor, the brother to the deceased said the duo ganged up and beat the old man senselessly living him for dead before they packed their belongings and escaped together with the man's three year old grand-daughter.

Neighbors said they were shocked on realising that the home of the deceased, a watchman at Rang’ala trading center, was unusually quiet after the protracted war that had persisted most part of the day.

The neighbors said they broke into the house where they stumbled on the body of the deceased lying dead on the bed before calling the police. The body was taken to the Siaya district hospital mortuary, where a postmortem would later be carried out.

Ugunja District Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia appealed to villagers to help police with information that would lead to the arrest of Moses Otieno and his mother Jane Adhiambo who have since gone underground.
