Egypt donates Sh16 million worth of PPE to Kenya

Egypt has delivered a shipment worth approximately USD150,000 (Sh16 million) containing more than 7,000 pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Kenyan Ministry of Health.

This is in fulfilment of the pledge made by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi to contribute USD4 million (Sh433 million) worth of support through the African Union Response Fund to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The support was provided by Egypt in light of the brotherly ties that bind all African countries in general, and Egypt and Kenya in particular.

The Protective Equipment including protective gowns, sterile gloves, face shields, protective goggles, rubber boots and sharps container boxes was received by the Health Chief Administrative Secretary, Dr. Rashid Aman and CAS of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ababu Namwamba.

During the handover, Minister Plenipotentiary Nelly Eloraby Chargé d’Affaires of the Egyptian Embassy in Nairobi, stated that this support was provided by Egypt in light of the brotherly ties that bind all African countries in general, and Egypt and Kenya in particular. It is also “in recognition of Africa’s common destiny, particularly as we face, COVID-19, a common challenge which threatens all of us and necessitates a strong collective response to overcome.”

Eloraby also highlighted the exemplary relationship between Egypt and Kenya which continues to grow from strength to strength and which spans across all avenues of cooperation, including trade, security, health, education and culture.

Dozens of healthcare workers went on strike over inadequate PPE for handling COVID-19 patients.
