Jumia embarks on marketplace model as it lowers prices to mark anniversary

NAIROBI, KENYA: Jumia is celebrating its third anniversary with attractive discounts for its customers between April 5-7.

Jumia opened its Kenyan operations in March 2013 with a paltry workforce of four employees in an apartment office. Three years later, the company employs hundreds of talent and has a strong presence across major towns and cities in Kenya besides being a formidable voice in the industry.

“It is exciting to see the impact our business has had in the country. We are grateful to our customers for making us the leading online retailer and to our employees for their dedication and hard work. We have come a long way in three years and are optimistic the years ahead can only offer more.” Parinaz Firozi, MD, Jumia Kenya.

The sale is tailored to enjoin customers in the celebration which will feature discounts of up-to 80 percent on televisions, mobile phones, home appliances and fashion among others which will only be available between that period.

As the company enters its fourth year, Firozi predicts a significant surge in growth and operations as Jumia embarks fully on a marketplace business model.

“Having achieved significant milestones that changed Kenya’s online retail landscape, we want to leverage on the marketplace model to provide our customers with the largest product assortment and help maximize profits for hundreds of entrepreneurs selling on the platform,” said Firozi.
