Strathmore to offer courses in oil and gas

Kenya: National Oil and Strathmore University has signed an agreement to introduce executive short courses in oil and gas. The partnership is part of a strategy by National Oil to develop adequate local expertise in the sector.

National Oil CEO, Sumayya Hassan-Athman, said the initiative is aimed at accelerating take-off of the sector by bridging the skills gap and enhancing the participation of Kenyans in the development of oil and gas resources. “Our long-term view is to develop a pool of skilled workforce at all levels of the petroleum value chain so as to ensure that our national skills base does not slow down the industry once it takes off,” she stated.

The oil marketer and Strathmore Extractive Industries Centre (SEIC) will jointly formulate the course structure and content to provide specialised training for professionals both within and outside Kenya’s emerging oil and gas sector. To equip participants with adequate industry know-how, the two parties will conduct research to improve the courses on offer.

Athman said the SEIC training on oil and gas is tailored to meet the unique requirements of top and middle tier professionals. “We recognise professionals’ desire to understand oil and gas sector but may lack the time to commit to full time studies,” Athman explained.
