Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has announced he plans to run for political office.
Njenga also disclosed that certain "powerful" politicians had been streaming to his home in the dead of night seeking an alliance with him.
"From today, I want everyone to know I will no longer hold night meetings. I want to do everything in broad daylight. Any politician who wants the votes I hold should meet me in broad daylight and we shake hands in front of the cameras.
"At night, I want to be with my wife and children," he said.
The ex-Mungiki boss, who at one time had vied for the Laikipia East parliamentary seat, refused to say which elective post he would run for, only promising to do so after "consulting" his family and church members.
The long haul
"I am in this for the long haul; nobody should assume I will stand by and watch them divide leadership positions amongst themselves," said Njenga.
Njenga spoke at his Isinya home when he hosted the Isinya DO, local police officers and councillors to his birthday party.
"A few years back when I held any function in my home, police would descend on me, claiming it was an oathing ceremony. That’s why I invited the local police here, in broad daylight, to celebrate with me. I refrained from inviting politicians because I wanted the common man as my guest," said the 43-year-old Njenga.
City Clerk Philip Kisia, who was present, said Njenga’s transformation was real and he was ready to work with him for the good of the country.
