Ngilu renews Water Board CEO’s contract

By ANDERSON OJWANG

Water Minister Charity Ngilu has renewed the contract of Lake Victoria South Water and Services Board chief executive Michael Ochieng’ ending a battle with the Board.

Mr Ochieng reported to his office Wednesday accompanied by Kisumu East DC Mogaka Mabeya and other top security officers at 10am after a meeting.

Mr Mabeya ordered the redeployment of Administration Police officers who had been stationed at the facility. Ochieng’ later addressed staff and called for co-operation to ensure they achieve their objectives. The board had extended the CEO’s term which expired in June for one month in controversial circumstances.

The post had earlier been advertised after the board said Ochieng’ failed to meet the set marks when he presented himself for interview.

Last week, board chairman George Ndonji wrote to Ochieng’ after the expiry of his extended contract on July 31, telling him to stay away and await advertisement of the position.

Ochieng’ dismissed the move by the chairman saying it was not consultative.
