ODM picks candidate for Ikolomani poll

By AUGUSTINE ODUOR

Orange Democratic Movement Party has nominated Bernard Masaka Shinali as the candidate for Ikolomani by-election on May 23.

ODM Secretary General, Anyang’ Nyong’o, presented the candidate a certificate of nomination at Orange House, on Friday.

"The decision was unanimously reached following Ikolomani delegates meeting last month. The delegates unanimously endorsed him," Prof Nyong’o said.

He added: "Having been no other candidate to show interest in challenging Mr Shinali for the ODM certificate, it was prudent that he be given the opportunity to run for the seat."

Party National Elections Board Chairman, Philip Okundi, said Shinali won the board’s approval when he emerged as the sole contender for the ticket.

Civic wards

Okundi also noted that the party would be holding nominations in the six vacant civic wards across the country ahead of the by-elections.

The six vacant civic seats are Shirikisho Ward in Garsen Constituency, Central Gem in Gem Constituency, Entarara in Kajiado South Constituency, Karebur in Turkana North Constituency, Tarbaj in Wajir East Constituency and Kimilili North Ward in Kimilili Constituency.

Lurambi MP, Manyala Keya, said all ODM legislators and leaders from Western Province had settled on Shinali.

"We are all confident that he will deliver the seat to ODM" said Mr Keya.

Speaking after receiving the nomination certificate, Shinali thanked the ODM leadership for the opportunity.
