Kibaki retains Kathurima as KLRC chairman

By Harold Ayodo and Nancy Akinyi

President Kibaki has retained Mr Kathurima M’Inoti as head of Kenya Law Reform Commission (KLRC) for a term of three years.

The appointment through a gazette notice sees Kathurima heading the commission for the third term.

In the gazette notice, Ms Nancy Baraza also retains her seat as the commission vice-chairperson, which she first held in 2007.

Kathurima was first appointed chairman in 2003 and reappointed in 2007. Advocate of the High Court Hassan Nunow Lakicha is the new member of the KLRC.

Mr Lakicha was part of the task force Kibaki appointed in 2007 to look into grievances by the Muslim community. The task force has already presented its findings and recommendations to the President.

Desterio Oyatsi, Mbage Njuguna, Jane S Mwangi and Benjamin Musau retained their posts as commissioners. The appointments come at a time when the KLRC is about to see through three Bills that may revolutionise family law.
