Law review team names ‘enemies’

The Committee of Experts on constitution making has identified enemies of the process who are determined to derail the process.

The committee chairman Nzamba Kitonga singled out NGOs, politicians, religious leaders, lawyers and "general busybodies".

Said he: "All they want is to make a fortune out of a delayed process by moving to court to contest any move we make with selfish motives. The duty of the media is to assist Kenyans to separate the chaff from the wheat."

Mr Kitonga said some NGOs have been formed under the guise of educating the public but "in the real sense all they are up to is making money".

He censured politicians who said one thing at one forum but changed tune in another. "We are calling on Kenyans, through the media, to unmask fake friends who are not committed the process," he said.

The Committee of Experts made the appeal yesterday at a luncheon with media personalities.

Committee vice-chair Atsango Chesoni defended her team saying lack of funds had frustrated their operations initially but promised wider consultations with the media.
