The woman allegedly blocked the main gate of Roy Millers off Airport North Road in Embakasi, bringing business to a standstill

A businesswoman has been charged with creating a disturbance after she allegedly blocked the main gate of Roy Millers off Airport North Road in Embakasi, Nairobi forcing employees to abandon their vehicles and walk home.

According to court documents, Nancy Wangari Maina, 28, committed the offence on November 25 by denying staff access to the premises bringing the business to a standstill. The accused is said to have been contracted by the Roy Millers to be ferrying the garbage from the factory to the Dandora dumping site using her tipper lorry at Sh550 per tonne.

However, when the deal was discontinued, she claimed she had never been paid for her services even as the company insisted they did owe her any money.

On the material day, Wangari, who was carrying her four-month-old baby went to the company dressed in Muslim attire and pretended that she was a client who needed to purchase flour. She was directed to the accountant who deals with sales.

After she was ushered in, she demanded to speak with the owner of the company over her unpaid dues and vowed she would not leave the premises until she gets paid no matter how long it will take.

Her conduct prompted the manager to inform the owner of the company, who insisted her had paid her all the money he owed her. He requested her to get her statement and go see him so that they can compare notes but she could hear none of it. The matter was then reported at the police leading to her arrest.

When she was released, she went back to the factory and used her car to block the main gate. Employees who were on their way home had to leave their vehicles at the parking lot and walk home. Police were called in and arrested her for the second time.

When she appeared before Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi, she pleaded that she was the sole breadwinner and had children to look after. She was released on a free bond of Sh10,000 pending a hearing on June 20 next year.
