Anthony locks horns with Duncan sunday

By Feverpitch Reporter

After lots of sun, sand and mud at Husseini Dairy race track in North Coast ’s Nguu Tatuu, buggy drivers return to Nairobi on Sunday.

This will be an exciting change of scenario as the as the fifth round of the Kenya National Autocross Championship returns to Jamhuri Park.

"Standards have been set and only the sky is the limit," Clerk of the Course Jim Kahumbura quipped.

Top of the bill is a tussle between series leader Steve Anthony and his erstwhile motocross opponent, Ian Duncan.

While Duncan still enjoys ago at motorbikes, Anthony is back on four-wheel contraption (buggies) and now causing ripples on the eight leg buggy circuit.

Spirited attack

Anthony, a former motocross champion, mounted a spirited attack in the fourth round at Nguu Tatuu, but was smiling all the way to the podium when Duncan broke his steering rack in the third heat.

Prior to Duncan ’s exit, Coast fans had already had a real treat of hair-raising thrills. Nguu Tatu was fascinating with rally cars incorporated into the race.

Jamhuri Park renews the real challenge what with its tight and hairpin nature of terrain.

Anthony’s buggy is powered by a 1300cc Starlet turbo engine and is surely at pains to eclipse defending champion Duncan who beat him by a mere 4 seconds in the third meeting in March. Duncan is set to share his KTM ‘Attacker 1’ buggy with his rally navigator Amaar Slatch.

Behind Duncan will be a fierce battle pitting teenage derivers. Arthur Kinyanjui and Ken Anunda just can’t wait to attack.

Kinyanjui is currently placed second with 33 points. He hopes to maintain his position knowing full well that Duncan will be fighting to make up for his loss in North Coast.

Steve Anthony leads the series with 59points with Duncan occupying the third position.

Kinyanjui is one of the most improved drivers on the circuit-exhilarated by his awesome driving lines. Another teenage driver is 16 year-old Peponi School student Ken Anunda.

Ken is son of former rally ace Dave Anunda who is incidentally the scrutineer and starter for this event.

Anunda was enthusiastic after acquiring a new buggy.

"My new buggy has made me improve and perform well. I have been able to rake in top ten positions out of 31 competitors. I have been testing it regularly just to see how it goes on Sunday (June 28)," said Anunda.
