2021 Boston Marathon champion Kenya's Benson Kipruto on Sunday won the 44th Chicago Marathon men's title in an unofficial time of two hours, four minutes and 24 seconds.

Ethiopia's Seifu Tura, the defending Chicago champion, and Kirupto battled it out for the final minutes of the 2022 race after going neck-and-neck for nearly the entire course.

Known for his last-minute surges, his signature finish was on full display in Chicago as he pulled ahead in the final moments to secure his stunning win.

Tura finished second in 2:04:49 with Kenyan John Korir third in 2:05:01.

Kipruto's win marks the second Chicago Marathon victory in his family. Kipruto's brother Dickson Chumba won the 2015 Chicago Marathon.

This was Kipruto's first Chicago title and he had a personal best time, beating his 2:05:13 at the 2019 Toronto Marathon.

Earlier this year, he finished third at the Boston Marathon.

Elsewhere, Marcel Hug, known as the "silver bullet," defeated defending champion Daniel Romanchuk to the 2022 Chicago Marathon Men's Wheelchair Race in record-breaking time.

Hug finished with an official time of 1:25:20, which beat the course record of 1:26:56

Romanchuk came in second in this year's race.
