Police in Bondo, Siaya County, are investigating an incident where a minor allegedly stabbed and killed his mother's lover on Monday.

The incident happened at Sanda village in Usenge, where the victim, identified as Maurice Okoth, 39, was stabbed in the chest.

Reports indicated that Okoth had taken in the suspect’s mother as a wife a month ago.

The deceased was treated at a private hospital in Usenge town before heading back home. Around 9pm on the same day, he was discovered dead in the house.

Bondo sub-county police commander Robert Aboki said the 15-year-old suspect was arrested Tuesday morning now awaiting arraignment in court.

Okoth worked as a watchman at Sanda Primary School in Usenge.

"Investigations are on to establish what transpired. However, preliminary reports indicate that the suspect had a disagreement with his stepfather," said the police boss.

The deceased had reportedly requested the suspect to stand in for him at his place of work because he wanted to attend to some other urgent issue.

"The boy is said to have refused to perform the watchman duties as requested by the stepfather and a bitter disagreement ensued. That is when the suspect stabbed him in the chest, according to our initial investigations," said Aboki.

The body was moved to the Bondo sub-county mortuary awaiting autopsy.
