Four people suspected to be quack lawyers have been arrested in Nairobi during a sting operation carried out by police and members of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

LSK President Eric Theuri says the four were arrested in Kilimani and the city centre during a countrywide operation to weed out masqueraders and quacks in the legal profession.

Theuri told journalists outside the Supreme Court that the decision to launch the operation was necessitated by many complaints that his association had received from members of the public and its members.

"We have partnered with police and the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). All people who will be arrested in connection to the offence will be arraigned in court," said Theuri.

He added that they will be opposing their release on bail because they discovered that as soon those "quack lawyers" are released on bail they move from one town or city to another and continue with their illegal operations.

Theuri also cautioned law students from practicing or representing clients in court saying that they have to wait and graduate from law school.

The LSK leader also issued a stern warning to lawyers who engage law students in their offices by sending them to court to represent them, saying that if they are found they will also be arrested, prosecuted, and students barred from graduating from Law School.
