All is set for the restart of school games after a two-week break (mid-term) to pave way for the General election that culminated last Monday with the declaration of William Ruto as the President-elect. The games resume today at sub county level across the country ahead of next week's county games.

Most of the county secondary schools' Sports associations have released new dates after the games were abruptly interrupted a fortnight ago after the Ministry of Education closed schools for the elections.

Mombasa, Kwale, Machakos and Kakamega county games are set to be held from Tuesday to next Saturday at different designated venues.

In Mombasa, the county games are set to be staged at the Shanzu Teachers Training College and the Shimo la Tewa High School on Thursday and Friday.

Kinango Secondary School will host the Kwale games where all the participants are expected to report to the school on Thursday before action starts on Friday and Saturday. Boys will be accommodated at Kinango Boys Secondary School while girls will be at Vigurunguni School.

Yatta sub county games conclude today at Katangi Secondary School ahead of the Machakos County games that starts on Tuesday.

In Kakamega County, the school games are slated to start on Wednesday to Saturday to select teams for their Western region tournament scheduled for August 31-September 3 at Mumias Sports Complex. Former national champions Kakamega have been drawn in Group A alongside Burangasi, Shanderema and Mwihila while Group B has Koyonzo, Matunda and Butere Boys.

Group C comprises Munyuki, St Peters, Musingu and Mahanga. St Mary's Mwitoti, Mumias Muslim and Lugusi are all in group D.

School games resumed in May this year with athletics championships held at Kigari in Embu after they were suspended in March 2020 following the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak that also paralysed learning in all institutions countrywide.

In Nyanza, Kisumu West sub county games kick off at Maseno School today where hockey heavyweights Sinyolo Girls will be seeking to continue with their dominance.

Speaking to the Standard Sports, Sinyolo Girls hockey coach Peter Wangla said they are ready for the games despite the stoppages which have affected their preparations.

'We are ready for the games. The girls had prepared well for the sub-county games before we went for the election break and I believe they have gotten enough rest," said Wangla.

Sinyolo will be expected to dominate hockey, basketball, handball and football.

Rugby heavyweights and hosts Maseno School are expected to dominate the sevens and 15s category alongside football, basketball and handball.
