No recruit among 7,479 National Youth Service (NYS) who graduated yesterday tested positive for Covid-19 duing their six months of training.

NYS Director-General Matilda Sakwa yesterday said they strictly observed Covid-19 protocols during the training period.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, and Public Service Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary Margaret Kobia graced the occasion carried out under the constraint of the Covid-19 pandemic in Gilgil.

Yesterday’s event was different unlike previous events as parents, guardians, and relatives of the graduates were not allowed to the event due to the Covid-19.

Speaking during the ceremony, President Uhuru commended the graduates for adhering to the Covid-19 guidelines.

Uhuru commended the leadership and management of NYS for delivering the recruits’ training programme safely and in full compliance with Ministry of Health guidelines.

He said all Kenyans should look at the institution as an example of how ordinary life can continue safely and responsibly and in full fidelity with preventive measures put in place.
