Leaders, scribes pay tribute to journalist

Tributes yesterday continued to pour in for veteran journalist Robin Njogu (pictured).

Njogu died of Covid-19 complications at the Aga Khan Hospital on Monday, where he had been admitted for three weeks. His death came just days after that of his mother.

At the time of his death, Njogu served as the Managing Editor for Radio at Royal Media Services where he oversaw 13 stations.

He was also part of the 19-member Task Force Report on the Improvement of Information and Public Communication that made recommendations on how to make the Government more open and honest to the public.

Njogu (pictured) was feted with the Presidential Order of Service, Uzalendo Award by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Madaraka Day in 2020 for helping steer the country through the pandemic.

He joined Royal Media in 2015 having led news teams at Capital FM and Nation Media Group.

At Capital FM, he was the News Editor while at Nation, he was engaged as the Head of News for Radio.

In a tribute, RMS said Njogu was a talented journalist and editor whose firm leadership ensured high-quality editorial products across all its radio stations.

"Known for his gentle demeanour, Robin excelled at developing and keeping great talent within the stations,” read the statement.

President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto said he was a fair and honest man.

“Robin was an excellent journalist who mentored many young people in the Fourth Estate. We will forever cherish his skills and expertise," Uhuru said.

He was one of the reporters assigned to State House during ex-president Mwai Kibaki's tenure and an editor during President Uhuru's.

Some of his colleagues and journalists who paid tribute to the Njogu include John-Allan Namu, Francis Gachuri, Ben Kitili, Trevor Ombija and James Smart.
