Police arrest suspect over hate leaflets threatening evictions

Police in Eldoret have arrested a suspect in connection with the circulation of leaflets warning certain communities of eviction in Kipkaren, Kapseret constituency.

Ayub Gitonga, the county commander said the police are working round the clock to conclude investigations on the matter and have suspects araigned.

Addressing a security meeting at ACK Malel at Pioneer, Steven Kihara, the Uasin Gishu commissioner said the police are pursuing more suspects.

“The police officers tasked with investigating this matter will arrest more suspects and arraign them for plea taking,” Kihara said.

The commissioner attributed the hate leaflets to land disputes that have been witnessed in the region over the past years. He assured the residents that the government will address the cases at Kipkaren.

“We will work with the land registrar and the elders to ensure that we bring to an end the land grabbing cases that have become common in this region," he said.

He revealed that the sub county peace committee has been revived and will work closely with elders, nyumba kumi leaders and members of the community to address peace and security matters.
