WTO to have its first female head as Kenya’s Amina Mohamed loses bid

The race for the position of director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO) is now between two female candidates: Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria and Ms Yoo Myung-hee of South Korea.

After a voting session that started on September 24 and ended on October 6, and intense consultations among the representatives of the WTO member states, Ambassador Amina was dropped alongside two other aspirants - Dr Liam Fox from United Kingdom and Mohammad Maziad Al-Tuwaijiri of Saudi Arabia.
