Seventh body of missing officer retrieved

The seventh body of the missing officer who drowned alongside six others in River Kagir in Baringo County has been found.

The officer was the driver of the vehicle the officers from the Anti Stock Theft Unit were using the night they were swept away by flash floods at the seasonal river Kagir.

The retrieval of the body, according to Baringo County Commander, bring the number of dead officers to seven.

"On Monday evening, we retrieved another body of the missing officer after a four-day search. This adds the numbers of officers who died to seven," Wafula said.

He said the death of the officers was a big loss as they were maintaining security at the volatile Yatya area in Baringo North.

The vehicle was ferrying 12 officers. Three of them managed to swim across and two others were rescued. They were then treated at Marigat Sub-County hospital and discharged.

The vehicle which also had firearms was swept 200 meters away by raging waters.

So far, Mr Wafula said some of the firearms had been retrieved and search for the others was ongoing.

The operation, he added, however, comes to a close following the retrieval of the bodies in a rescue operation that kicked off on Friday last week.
