Dormitory destroyed in night inferno

Property estimated to be worth Sh1 million was destroyed after fire burnt down a dormitory at Chebagwan Boys High school in Bureti constituency on Monday night.

Bureti Police divisional boss Felicia Nafula said preliminary investigation indicated that the fire at Suswa dormitory, started around 8pm.

The dormitory made of timber and corrugated iron sheets, accommodated 89 students.

None of the students were injured during the fire incident which reduced the dormitory to ashes.

"The students were in their classrooms when the fire at Suswa dormitory started," said the school's principal Josephat Otieno.

Nafula said fire brigade from the county government of Kericho managed to put out the fire at around 9:30pm. This is an hour after it started.

"The cause of the fire has not been established but we have launched an investigation into the matter," the police boss said.
