Body of boy killed by floods retrieved

The body of a 13-year-old boy who was killed by floods in Homa Bay County has been retrieved.

The minor identified as Boaz Odhiambo Ooko died at Manyuru Village, West Kabuoch Location in Ndhiwa Sub-county.

His body was recovered in River Kuja on Saturday after missing for five days.

Area Chief Joseph Ogur said the body was found seven kilometres away from where the boy drowned.

“We have recovered the body and I thank the residents for the concerted efforts they put in retrieving it,” said Ogur.

Ooko died when he was crossing River Kuja which had already broken its banks after heavy rainfall.

The pupil of Radienya Primary School died when a boat he boarded capsized on Tuesday evening.

According to Ogur, a section of the river where the accident occurred is used by residents to cross it.

“Area residents use that point to cross the river during normal times. The death was caused by floods,” Ogur said.

The administrator said Ooko died because he could not swim when the boat had capsized.

The body was moved to Manyatta Mortuary in Kobodo for post mortem.

Five other passengers who were in the boat survived the tragedy.
