Sonko in trouble for being abusive, unruly during arrest

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is in trouble for being ‘unruly and abusive’ during his arrest on Friday.

According to a statement released by the National Police Service on Saturday, the governor was abusive during his arrest and obstructed police officers from executing their lawful duties.

The statement added that assault charges will be preferred against him.

“During the arrest he became abusive, unruly and violent in an attempt to resist hence obstructing police officers from the lawful execution of their duties.

“In the process, he assaulted and injured the senior police officer leading the team and damaged media equipment,” read the statement in part.

Further, members of the public who intend to cause unrest due to Sonko’s arrest have been warned that they will face the full force of the law.

Sonko was arrested on Friday in Voi after an order by DPP Noordin Haji and he denied claims that he was trying to get away.

“Why would l run away? To where and to do what? I am a Kenyan who is always on the move doing what's good for the people,” he added.

The embattled governor said he is more than ready to respond all queries raised against him by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in a court of law.

He told Nairobi residents to remain calm, expressing hope that soon the truth will come out and he will be freed.

 “I want to confidently state from the onset that I am more than ready for the lawful course that will help us know the truth,” Sonko said in a statement.
