Car that plunged into the Indian Ocean has been retrieved

The saloon car that plunged into the Indian Ocean at the Likoni ferry channel on Saturday morning has been retrieved.

The vehicle, Reg. KAX 475B, had sunk six metres deep.

Earlier, the body of the driver, John Mutinda, was also retrieved and taken to the Jocham Hospital Mortuary.


Benedict Kieti, a family member, said they had received news about the accident in the morning but were yet to see the body.

He added that the deceased left the house in a hurry saying he had to attend to something.

The family said they would give a comprehensive statement once they view the body.

According to the Kenya Ferry Services, the incident occurred at 4.20am on the mainland side.

It is reported that the motorist speeded towards the ramps and ignored calls to slow down.
