Police officers nabbed in botched carjacking plan

Two police officers have been arrested in a botched attempt to carjack an Uber driver in Eastleigh Estate, Nairobi.

According to detectives, the constables identified as Ali Shukri Galgalo from Quarry Police Post and Abdikadir Daiwo of Muthaiga Police Station called an Uber driver to take them to Pangani.

However, when the Uber driver arrived at the scene, they turned against him, forced him at the backseat and started driving towards Eastleigh area.

The taxi driver survived the ordeal after the vehicle crashed along the way.

“At Kilimanjaro round about, the vehicle crashed and stalled, forcing them to attempt to escape on foot but were quickly arrested,” Statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations read in part.

The detectives have further revealed the two suspects are in police custody and will be charged tomorrow.

The incident comes just after a series of cases in which police officers have been involved in crime.

Some of the criminal activities officers have been linked to include bank robbery, robbery on M-Pesa shops and teaming up with thugs to terrorise civilian.

On October 6, 2019, The Sunday Standard ran a story that revealed that at least 625 cases where police officers were involved in the crime were reported in the last 10 months.

The report revealed that officers from various cadres including Administration Police, regular police and officers attached to DCI have all fallen victims.
