A man who was caught on a viral video assaulting a female security guard at Kamorock, Nairobi has been arrested.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives were able to identify the suspect after the video went viral.

“Mr Justus Kamoja who was captured on a video assaulting a female Security Guard at Komarock has been arrested. The 30-year-old suspect will be arraigned in court once necessary investigations are complete. Many thanks to all those that contacted us,” said DCI on twitter.

Netizens had put pressure on the police to arrest the culprit filmed in the 133-second video.

Kamoja will be presented in court upon the completion of police investigation.

In the video, Kamoja is seen coming out of a white Maruti Suzuki Omni car to open the gate before the security guard closed it.

It is not yet clear why the guard obstructed his way but Kamoja responded by slapping the woman.

But the officer, unbowed by his attacker, proceeded to close the gate, seemingly to say, “I will conduct my duty come what may.”

Irked by the guard’s action, the suspect continued to hit the guard, this time round harder until she fell on the ground.

He continued battering her, pushing her outside of the video field.

An old woman and a middle-aged man who were in the Maruti car came out probably to get hold of the attacker as other concerned members of the public also joined in.

The suspect then, later on, embarked in the car, threw out a black bag before driving away.

Coincidentally, the video surfaced on Monday, November 25, an International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
