Moi Kabarak in list of top performers

Moi Primary School Kabarak emerged among top schools in South Rift with a mean score of 389.91 in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams. 

This was an improvement from last year’s mean score of 389.24.

This came as private schools continued to impress in the 2019 KCPE exams.

Most of the top candidates in the region this year are from Moi Primary, Gilgil Hills Academy, Kagai School, St Peters Elite School, Ridges View Academy, High Peak Junior Academy and Little Friends.

Wachira James Githuku from High Peak Junior Academy in Naivasha, Precious Nakhumicha of Gilgil Hills Academy and Kanyua Derek Prince, also from High Peak tied at 436 marks to become the top candidates in the region.

Others who posted impressive results were Mang’ong’o Hezborne Orangi, of Kagaki School who scored 435 marks, Michael Odero from Gilgil Hill Academy (433) and Esther Nyakweya of Moi Primary - Kabarak (431).

This year, 82 Moi Kabarak pupils scored over 400 marks, an improvement from last year’s 77. The school had 179 candidates this year.

They include Asaph Kibiwott who scored 430 marks, Patience Nekesa and Naomy Nyakerario who tied on 429 marks. At least 97 pupils scored over 300 marks and one pupil had 295 marks, also an improvement from last year when the last pupil scored 284 marks. “There is great improvement as most candidates met their targets,” said headteacher Nelson Kiptoo.

Nyakweya, who hopes to join Alliance Girls High School said: “I hoped to do even better, but this is great. I achieved this through hard work.” 

The school posted improved performances in Kiswahili, English and Science and maintained same grades in Social Studies. It posted mean scores of 81.26 in Kiswahili, 84 in English, 72.9 in Science, 76 in Mathematics and 75 in Social Studies.

And it was song and dance at Naivasha’s Ridges View Academy as teachers celebrated results that saw them top Naivasha.

School manager Jane Wamiti attributed their success to hard work, co-operation between the staff, students and parents.

In Kericho, Angela Koskei, from  Kericho Primary and Isaac Kipkoech from Progressive Chepchep Academy tied on 430 marks to top the county.
