Eliud Kipchoge and CCF Julius Kamau
Kenya Forest Service (KFS)  on Saturday held a tree planting activity in honor of the world athletics champion Eliud Kipchoge during a marathon event held at Karura Forest.

The event saw Eliud Kipchoge plant commemorative trees at Amani Gardens together with other partners including the Isuzu East Africa led by the MD Rita Kavashe, KEPSA, Friends of Karura, and Centum Group CEO James Mworia among others present.

While flagging off the marathon, the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Julius Kamau noted the connection between forests and athletic sports in the country.

"Forests provide ideal training grounds for Kenyan athletes, and towards this, plans are underway for Eliud Kipchoge to adopt Kaptagat Forest in Uasin Gishu County, as one of his ideal high altitude training locations in the country." said the CCF.

The CCF also called on other corporate organisations to support forest conservation as part of their CSR activities and also in line with the National target of attaining 10 per cent tree cover by the year 2022.

Participants of the marathon were treated to a walk trail, with beautiful sceneries, and breathtaking canopies that Karura Forest offers.
