Five Rai Cement supervisors arrested in connection with company's boss killing

Five prime suspects in the murder of Rai Cement factory General Manager Chetan Vyas (pictured) have been arrested.

Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti in a Tweet stated the five, who are supervisors at the firm have been arrested after extensive forensic investigations placed them at the scene of crime.

The suspects include 38-year-old Salim, 24-year-old Osman Noor, Mohammed Shahid, 38, Yacob Ali, 24, and 29-year-old Shabdin Ismail.

“They are all loading supervisors in Rai Cement from Mombasa,” said Kinoti.

The DCI added they are also investigating the aspect of terror in the murder of the 50-year-old former Rai boss.

The late Vyas was killed on September 22 at his house after killers gained entry into his house by removing the store’s tiles and ambushed him in the bedroom where they tied his hands and legs and strangled him to death using a rope.

“The DCI cautions companies who employ foreign-trained personal to always seek clearance from DCI, which is done through Interpol coordination,” said Kinoti.

Kericho County Deputy Police Commander Patricia Nasio in an earlier brief said though the suspects who wore balaclavas had been captured by CCTV camera mounted outside Vyas house, they dismounted CCTV cameras mounted inside the deceased’s house.

“After strangling the deceased, the suspects ransacked the house and made away with six sack. We are nonetheless not certain what the sacks contained and whether the content was the motive of murder," said Nasio.
