At least 36 teachers have been sacked by their employer Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for professional misconduct including having sexual relations with learners.

In a gazette notice dated October 4, TSC boss Nancy Macharia said names of the affected teachers have been struck off the register and will not be allowed to teach in any school including private institutions.

“In exercise of powers conferred by section 30(1) (e) of TSC Act, the commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names appear in the notice have been deregistered,” said TCS boss.

More sackings could be on the way due to an ongoing probe involving 51 teachers accused of having sexual relationships with learners.

The commission is currently probing sexual scandals and illegal relationship with learners with the determination expected to be out before November.

Apart from illicit relationships, some teachers were axed last month for failing to attend training on the competency-based curriculum (CBC and disrupting the exercise in various centres across the country.
