A Form Three student of Barding Boys Secondary School has allegedly committed suicide moments after he was sent home for school fees.

A Form Three student of Barding Boys Secondary School has allegedly committed suicide moments after he was sent home for school fees.

Kevin Otieno, 17, from Sirandu Village in Gem Sub-county is said to have thrown himself inside River Yala.

His grandmother Rosalia Nyasigunga said the boy was sent home on September 8, 2019 to collect fees.

His brother, who is based in Nairobi, had sent him Sh3,000 to settle the arrears.

The boy, according to his grandmother, had complained that his brother sent him only Sh3,000 yet he had a fee balance of Sh8,087.

"He went silent for a while after speaking to his brother and later left the house quietly. He appeared disappointed. He never returned home," said Nyasigunga.

Deputy Principal David Onyango confirmed Otieno was a student of the school and that he had been sent home to collect school fees.
