Light Uriri fosters collaboration to empower less fortunate in society

Light Uriri, a community-based organisation in Migori County has collaborated with like-minded individuals to empower less fortunate people in the area.

The partnership is aimed at rescuing, feeding, clothing, protecting and providing education to orphans, street children, exploited girls in addition to empowering women through advocacy and training in rural Uriri in Kenya.

Light Uriri currently supports over 530 children; recently it received a donation of 261 backpacks, which were distributed to 261 both boys and girls in the school.

According to Jackson Bambo, Founder and Director said the backpacks are a big boost to the kids and their families, as most did not have them due to prices.

“The backpacks will prevent books from damage because of water during the rainy season and they are child user-friendly,” he said.

Lindsay Koch from California, United States of America (USA) coordinated the donation.

They have pledged to mobilise an additional 269 backpacks to the rest of the pupils in the upper primary section through.

“We are thankful to have supporters on board, they help us get child education sponsor, volunteers and also help in mobilising financial resources towards specific projects. We hope that this partnership continues so that it can help bring hope to most of these kids in need. This will give them an opportunity to play and learn,” Bambo added.
