DPP fights Echesa’s block on arrest

DPP Noordin Haji

The Director of Public Prosecutions has sought to have a petition filed by former Sports and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa (above) seeking to stop his arrest and prosecution dismissed.

State lawyer Samson Ng’etich, submitted that the DPP was vested with powers to prefer charges against anyone who has been implicated with any offense.

Ng'etich maintained by filing the petition, Echesa wanted to circumvent the justice system as investigations were still ongoing.

Mr Echesa was arrested on May 17 after he was linked to the Matungu killings whose toll stands at 21.

He was arrested and released without charges and, filed the petition to block future arrests in relation to the killings.
