Query over delayed water plan

Members of the County Assembly have called for an inquiry into the stalled Nthimbiri-Kirimara water project in North Imenti.

The project, initiated in 2003, has gobbled up millions of shillings but residents are yet to get water.

Ntima East MCA Paul Bagine Bagine sought a statement on its status in August last year, but a comprehensive report was only delivered on Tuesday.

When Abogeta East MCA Dennis Kiogora tabled the report, Mr Bagine called on Public Accounts Committee and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to conduct a probe.

Bagine said the project started in 2003, with the help of former Finance Minister David Mwiraria, and was meant to distribute water to more than 10,000 residents of Nthimbiri, Mpuri and Kaingínyo.

Mr Kiogora said close to Sh20 million had been used, but no household had received water.
