Patient falls to death 'sneaking from hospital'

Police in Kajiado have launched investigations into an incident where a male patient died while sneaking out of the Kajiado County Referral Hospital early last Sunday morning.

Kajiado Central Sub-County Police Commander Issa Mohammed said the body of the middle-aged man, James Loiduka, was discovered by a herder in Esukuta area a few kilometres from the hospital where he had been admitted last Friday evening.

Mohammed said the body was retrieved under the railway line and the missing patient was suspected to have jumped over the fence and fell to his death.

“We suspect that the man fell off the fence because he suffered visible physical injuries on his chest and a broken foot. We are investigating the incident to know the exact cause of death,” he said.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased said they were shocked by the incident as the man had been admitted with severe hypertension and wondered how he could walk out of the wards unnoticed.

They have since recorded a statement with the Director of Criminal Investigations and are awaiting post-mortem results to reveal the cause of death, while considering taking legal action against the hospital.
