Two women commit suicide in Gilgil

Two women committed suicide in Gilgil town in separate incidents.

In the first incident, the police and residents found the body of a mother of three hanging near Langa Langa shopping centre, a day after attending a church service with friends.

The woman bade farewell to her friends after the Sunday service, but was not taken seriously only for her body to be found in the morning.

According to a resident, Purity Kamau, they sat together throughout the sermon adding that the woman appeared distressed.

“We went out for lunch in one of the local hotels and each left for home but she told us she was leaving the following day although she did not indicate to where and bade us farewell only for us to find her body this morning,” she said.

Life unbearable

Gilgil OCPD Emmanuel Opuru said a suicide note was found in one of the pockets in which she  indicated life had become too unbearable for her.

“The note tells her friends to take care of her three children who are in school,” he said.

Mr Opuru said the body was taken to a local hospital mortuary.

In the second incident, the body of a 48-year-old woman was found near Comboni Polytechnic hanging from a tree.

According to James Kariuki, a neighbour, the mother of two worked in a local market selling belts and hats and it was not immediately clear what could have happened.

“She was last seen on Saturday since it was a market day, but we are shocked by this turn of events that she has decided to take her own life,” he said.

Opuru confirmed the incident saying her body had been taken to the local mortuary.
