Man to face trial over wife's death

The case of a 33-year-old man suspected of killing his wife will now proceed to hearing after the  woman's family rejected a proposal for a plea bargain.

Gilbert Kipkosgei Kibet is accused of killing Edna Chebet on September 14, 2015 at Chebisas Village in Keiyo South sub-county.

Kibet, through lawyer Vincent Githaiga, had on June 22, 2016 requested the court to allow him enter into a plea bargain agreement with Chebet's family.

Chebet's family protested saying they were not consulted.

“The family of Chebet have since indicated that they are not agreeable to the plea bargain. We, therefore, request a hearing date,” stated the prosecutor.

Kibet and Chebet have three children; two boys and one girl.

Reports indicate that she had not been legally married to Kibet. Upon her death, Kibet's family had to pay two cows to be allowed to bury her.

The case will be heard on September 25.
