Man who killed his brother blames it on alcohol

A 25-year-old man who confessed to killing his younger brother blames his actions on the influence of alcohol.

Collins Kibet claimed intoxication tampered with his judgement, leading to the demise of his 20-year-old brother, Dennis Kipkoech.

Speaking at the Nakuru High Court during his mitigation yesterday before Justice Janet Mulwa, the accused said he accidentally and unintentionally killed his sibling.

“We were drinking and fought over an issue I cannot remember. Unfortunately, my brother was injured and bled to death,” he said.

The accused pleaded guilty and asked for a lesser charge of manslaughter after he entered a plea agreement with the prosecution.

He said what transpired on December 1, 2017 at Nyota Location in Kuresoi South within Nakuru County was a nightmare that will haunt him all his life.

“If I was not drunk, I would not have left my brother out bleeding by the roadside where he spent the whole night,” said Kibet in tears.

He said he and his dead brother were close and that is why he took him to Molo District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased, according to a post-mortem report, suffered various wounds on his right wrist. The court will administer its sentencing on June 19.
