Flex Air Charter, a flight company has issued Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Kirinyaga Woman Rep Purity Ngirici with a five-day ultimatum to settle a Sh6 million debt or face a legal suit.

In a letter written by lawyer Donald Kipkorir, the firm that rents out aircraft, has demanded that the two leaders clear their outstanding debt owed to it within five days failure to which they will sue them.

Joho allegedly leased one of the company’s helicopters in October 2016 at Sh4.4 million but did not pay the full amount incurred.

Lawyer Kipkorir said Flex Air Charters instructed him to write to Joho and the Woman MP over the debts.

“Sh2.5 million is outstanding on the said Sh4.4 million which we have been instructed to demand payment,” the letter reads.

Also served with the demand letter by Flex Air Charters is Ngirici who reportedly owes the firm Sh3.8 million.

Ngirici allegedly leased the company’s chopper on diverse dates between May and August, 2016.

In the run-in to the 2017 General Election, politicans opted for choppers to campaign over cars to gain advantage over their opponents as they were able to visit many places within a short time.

In Mombasa, Joho is said to have acquired three choppers to allow him to travel across the county.

The governor used the choppers not only for his coast tours, but also to visit far-flung parts of the country such as Nyanza and Rift Valley for NASA campaigns.

Ngirici stirred political waters with her multi-million land and aerial campaigns in the County. The first timer used choppers to traverse the county and won the Woman Rep seat.
