Teen suspected of killing brother, dumping body

Four days ago, William, 19, asked his younger brother Peter, 12, out for a walk but the younger boy was not to return home. William, who sat KCPE exam last year had earlier left their home in Kahoya Estate in Miti Moja area of Eldoret after a quarrel with their mother. He returned on Wednesday evening seeking his brother's company.

Yesterday, after three days of searching, Peter’s decomposing body was discovered in an abandoned pit latrine and William is suspected of killing Peter.

William took police officers from Eldoret Central Police Station to the latrine where the Standard Six pupil’s body was dumped, nine kilometres away from their home.

Annah Wanini, a family friend said Muthoni suspected all was not well with her son William who she says, a few days earlier had complained of not being loved by her.

“William left home carrying his clothes a few days ago but he came back. When the two went for a walk, Peter called his mother and told her that he would not go back if his brother was not allowed back home,” Ms Wanini said.

Eldoret Central Director of Criminal Investigations Linah Kavaila said the suspect had denied committing the crime until yesterday when he led detectives to the pit latrine. “The suspect is in custody and investigations are ongoing,” she said.
