Kenyans have been allowed to register up to five spouses in the National Integrated Management System (NIMS), commonly known as Huduma Namba.

NIIMS is a mass biometric registration system introduced by the government to create, manage and store Kenya’s population data.

Biometric data means unique identifiers or attributes including fingerprints, hand geometry, earlobe geometry, retina and iris patterns and voice waves.

The government kicked off pilot testing on Monday across 15 counties including Nairobi, Makueni, Uasin Gishu, Embu, Busia, Kajiado, Baringo, Marsabit, Kilifi, Kisii, Tana River, Embu, Kisumu, and Wajir.

The system will require data for Kenyans aged six and above, and foreigners living in the country.

The Huduma Namba registration form offers each applicant up to five options to name their spouses.

This has left many Kenyans talking with some taking to social media to express their views.

“I knew kuna kitu wrong with this huduma namba. Spouses ni wangapi? Wawawawa. Boy-child, your gods are not asleep. Then kuna typing error they forgot to add space for girlfriends,” wrote one Igonyi Gesare.

“What if you have more than five spouses, should you take another paper,” wrote Nyanchoka Kamanda.

In order for one to register for the Huduma Namba, one is required to carry original copies of their identification documents such as ID, birth certificate, driving license, KRA pin and most importantly, their physical presence at the station.

After registration, one will be given a Huduma Namba which will assign a personal unique identification in order for one to access government services.
