Tortured Nzoia Sugar MD Michael Kulundu is dead

The Nzoia Sugar Company managing director, Michael Kulundu (pictured) who was kidnapped, tortured and left for dead by unknown assailants in January is dead.

His family said he died today after collapsing at his house in Nairobi. He was scheduled for a routine checkup with his physiotherapist.

Kulundu’s body has since been moved to Lee Funeral Home.

On January 2, Kulundu was kidnapped from a hotel along the Kanduyi-Webuye Highway.

He was rescued by a driver who took him to Bungoma West hospital in Kanduyi town.

“Kulundu suffered multiple injuries on the head, a dislocated shoulder, cuts on the right hand, chest and lower limbs. We conducted a CT scan and the X-Ray, he is in a stable condition now but we have transferred him to Aga Khan Kisumu for specialised treatment,” doctors at the hospital said at the time.

According to Nzoia Sugar Company Workers Union Secretary General Macdonald Wamacho, the attack was linked to forces opposed to the privatization of the sugar mill.

Police investigating the case have not arrested Kulundu’s attackers.
