A matatu tout was crushed to death by a speeding bus in Homa Bay Town after he jumped from another Passenger Service Vehicle moving on the opposite direction.
Police said they had arrested the Acacia bus driver following the Monday evening incident.
The driver identified as Asman Juma who drives a bus belonging to Acacia Bus Company was arrested for allegedly hitting the tout with the bus at Sofia Estate, along Homa Bay- Rongo road.
The tout, identified as Peter Omondi, met his death when he jumped out of a Nissan matatu which he had boarded towards Rongo town.
Eye witnesses said the deceased failed to consider the distance between him and the bus that was traveling at high speed.
Omondi had boarded the Nissan matatu from Homa Bay bus terminus to bargain for his commission commonly known as ’Pocho" with the matatu conductor.
Normally, touts are engaged by matatu drivers to persuade passengers to board their vehicles. They are then paid a commission for the service.
Omondi sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital where he died while receiving medication.
Homa Bay OCDP Sammy Koskey confirmed the incident.
