We’ll support you, Gusii leaders tell CS Matiang’i

Gusii leaders now want Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i (pictured) to focus on the region's socio-political landscape.

The leaders from Nyamira and Kisii Counties also assured Dr Matiang’i of their support and urged him to perform his new duties without fear or favour.

They spoke on Friday in Nyamira when they joined the CS during the burial of Andrew Nyachwaya the father to County Women Representative, Jerusha Momanyi in Nyagancha.

Nyachwaya died at the age of 90 due to age related complications.

The leaders included Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri, his Nyamira counterpart Okong’o Mogeni, MPs Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba), Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango) and Alfa Miruka (Bomachoge Chache) and Nyamira County Assembly Speaker Moffat Teya.

The leaders praised the Building Bridges Initiative which they said had brought good tidings to the community and the nation.

Prof Ongeri urged Matiang’i to seek guidance of Gusii elders in discharge of his duties.

He told the CS to reckon the trust and confidence President Uhuru Kenyatta has in him and work harder to prove his critics wrong.

“Remember as you rise, there are other quotas that are jealousy of your rise and we can help you pray about it because that is the natural political landscape,” Ongeri told Matiang’i.

On his part Mr Okong'o praised the President for recognising the CS’s ability.

“Lets unite all Gusii leaders and speak in one language of thanks giving to the President and for Matiangi’s success in leadership that has earned him additional roles in the national leadership,” he said.

MPs Mose, Kemosi and Miruka urged Matiang'i to fast track pending development projects in the region.
