Kilifi AP officer assaults a man over alleged sex abuse claims

An elderly man has accused an Administration Police officer of beating him up after he demanded that the law enforcer keeps off his nieces.

The 56-year-old said he feared the officer could have been defiling the two girls aged 17.

The man yesterday told The Standard he became suspicious when the officer started giving the girls gifts.

On one occasion, he said, the officer took bread and sodas to the girls at school.

He later reported the matter to Jaribuni Assistant County Commissioner Barrier AP camp at Jaribuni, Kauma sub-county, where the officer is based.

He also reported the matter to the management of the school the girls attend and demanded that the officer stops seeing the minors.

The headteacher demanded to know the kind of relationship the AP and the minors have.

The complainant said his actions infuriated the officer who raided his home at around 8pm and beat him up.

His homestead is less than 30 metres from the AP camp.

"I learnt of the matter when the school management informed me an AP officer had given my nieces bread and sodas. The officer is said to have claimed he sponsors their education. However, we later discovered he was having an affair with one of the girls," he said.

He added: "I reported the matter to the sub-county director of education on January 3 and he referred me to our assistant county commissioner, who I was told, was better placed to address the matter since the officer falls under him."

"He threatened to shoot me dead. The officer even asked me to leave the area if I wanted to remain alive. He was unhappy that I had reported him to his bosses."

Ganze OCPD Patrick Ngeiywa confirmed the incident and said the matter was being investigated. He said they were also looking into allegations of sexual abuse.

"The matter has been reported to us and the complainant has filled a P3 form following the assault allegations. The local community has demanded that the officer be transferred,” said Ngeiywa.
