Should Kalonzo give up the Ukambani politics’ premier position?

Time is up for Kalonzo Musyoka as the Akamba people political Kingpin.  I commend Governors Alfred Mutua, Kivutha Kibwana and Charity Ngilu for being bold and coming out to state this fact.

This is the general feeling of members of the Kamba community in Lower Eastern region and other parts of the county. After many years in politics, which saw him hold senior positions, including that of Cabinet Minister and Vice President, Mr Kalonzo has nothing to show for it.

It is fair that Kalonzo paves way for fresh blood to take over, because his performance has been below par. The former VP has not been able to marshal the community to vote as one, a matter that saw other parties make serious inroads in his strongholds in the last two elections. There have been upheavals in county assemblies in the region, including Machakos, where I belong, and I can confirm without fear of contradiction that the Wiper Party boss has a hand in all these. This is very sad for a man who is supposed to be the unifying factor in the community.

The Kamba people need a new leader; someone who is aggressive, has a national appeal and networks. Dr Mutua (Machakos) and Prof Kibwana (Makueni) have these traits and they also have the requisite experience. Their terms end in 2022; it will be up to the community to decide who, between the two, takes the mantle.
