Couple fall in love despite speaking different languages, rely on translators

A smitten couple who met in a nightclub in Ibiza say they have fallen in love after Google Translate helped them communicate.

Chloe Smith, 23, was wowed by Daniele Marisco, 25, when they were both on holiday on the party island.

They enjoyed a "holiday fling", even though they couldn't speak a word of the same language.

But now, more than two years on, they are madly in love - thanks to Google Translate and videos with subtitles, Chloe says.

The makeup artist, originally from Wolverhampton, West Midlands, has learned Italian and helped Daniele brush up on his English.

They now live together in Streatham, south London.

"The more time we spent together the less we used the Google translator, and now it is once in a blue moon when Daniele doesn't know the name of something in English," Chloe said.

She wants to share her romantic tale to show others relationships can work, even when there's a language barrier.

Recalling their chance encounter in 2016, Chloe added: "There was something exciting about Daniele, the fact we couldn't understand each other wasn't a problem. We just clicked.

"I made the first move and asked him for his number because I just found him so attractive

"Despite never having a foreign boyfriend before, I knew I liked him, and I knew he would learn one day. Sometimes you must do these things for love.

"Some people thought I was crazy when I went to Barcelona with him after only knowing him for one week, but I just knew it would be the best decision I could ever make.

"From there we went to Tenerife and Madrid, within six months, we had probably been on more city breaks than some couples have in years, he is spontaneous and that's what I love.

"I went to live with him and his family in Naples in 2016 and it was a dream come true, it is one of the most authentic and beautiful cities I have visited in Europe."

Daniele, who works as a bartender in an Italian restaurant in London, said he and Chloe have "proved the doubters wrong".

He continued: "Chloe talked and laughed a lot, but I didn't understand. The only thing I understood was she was special.

"We wanted to be together from the moment we met and that is why we worked, she helped me learn English and I have helped her learn how to cook Italian food.

"We have proved any doubters that we're meant to be.

"From the very start I had a good feeling about Chloe, she is my soulmate."
